More about Arwen
Arwen – my shining star
Arwen is my lurcher puppy. I bought her from a very well respected lurcher breeder in Leicestershire.
Vicki’s lurchers are working dogs as well as companions.
Arwen comes from a long line of lurcher champions. Her mother was a Champion of Champions in 2007. That was simply a bonus. I bought her as a friend for Kylah. The boys are too old now to run and play – quite frankly breaking into a canter is too much like hard work for them these days! But as I was going to be surrounded by sheep I needed to again have something I could train to livestock early.
Arwen is white and blue brindle, like her mum. Her dad is a chunky, bouncy, brindle boy. She has beautiful grey eyes which come from the collie in her. Arwen won’t ever be very tall - 22 inches to the shoulder and she has really come out very whippet-like. I’m happy with that because my back’s not as great as it used to be, so I want to eventually have all dogs that I can chuck over walls if I need to – without incident!
Arwen’s temperament is absolutely stunning. She’s well balanced, happy, outgoing without being over the top, affectionate and loving. She makes people go all gooey. She’s totally un-bothered by anything – though she’s not overly keen on sheep running past her at full tilt!
She’s named after the Elven princess Arwen Evenstar in Lord of The Rings. It seemed fitting with her white coat, elfin face and grey eyes.
At the moment she’s just got her adult teeth so we are still in full-on chewing mode. Aaaaargh. She’s mangled the remote for the DVD player and I just rescued the TV one from the brink of annihilation too. Tidying up is undone usually within the day as I come down to find the post – mostly junk mail – shredded on the floor.
Arwen’s favourite pastimes are chasing around with Kylah, meeting other dogs and snuggles on the sofa. She loves to give kisses too. Her nicknames include Puppy Girl, Pups, and Wennie Wen.
